Eight new cases of coronavirus have been recorded, including four within the same household.

Public health director Dr Henrietta Ewart told today’s Covid briefing that these four cases are linked to a social event which was part of an outbreak last week.

Three of the other new cases are travel related and one has no clear line of transmission.

Contact tracing is ongoing.

Dr Ewart said we are now seeing the effects of the lockdown.

She said because people were out and about during Christmas and New Year there had been a large number of high risk contacts and low risk venues but now when there are new cases there are far fewer high risk contacts.

Dr Ewart said this was ‘good news and shows we are getting on top of things’. ‘We are beginning to get to the turning the corner point,’ she said.
