Old hyperbaric chambers that have helped many people have been lifted out of their premises in Douglas.
When Covid-19 restrictions were lifted so too were the decommissioned vessels, which were removed via a crane on Peel Road.
The chambers, which have been shipped to the UK, have improved thousands of lives over almost four decades.
Hyperbaric chamber treatment speeds up healing of a number of illnesses, including carbon monoxide poisoning, gangrene, stubborn wounds, and decompression sickness.
A fundraising campaign by the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Isle of Man (HBOT) has now raised £286,000 for the purchase of a new hyberbaric chamber and to modernise the facility.
The new facility will meet the working needs of the two removed chambers in a medical setting and has been designed by manufacturer "Haux" of Germany, which is awaiting signature of contract once the charity has sufficient funds in place.
Debbie Barron, secretary of the charity, called the removal a ’poignant’ occasion.
She said: ’With social distancing now being allowed it is very much hoped that our island’s population will continue to fundraise and donate in their own way for our campaign.
’This will enable the charity to be in a position to place the order for the new chamber which will take six months to manufacture, ship and install and then be able to recommence hyperbaric treatments.’
