Designers have been appointed as part of the redevelopment of Cummal Mooar residential home in Ramsey.
Health and Social Care Minister David Ashford was asked for an update into the redevelopment of the home by Chris Thomas (Douglas Central) during the August Tynwald written questions.
Mr Ashford said: ’Over recent years it had become increasingly apparent that Cummal Mooar had developed a number of limitations including its lack of personal facilities, the institutional size and scale of the property and how it compares poorly to other private services in the north of the island.
’It had served the DHSC well in delivering its objective of community-based services, however Adult Social Care now has to respond more flexibly to increasing demands and needs of older adults.’
Mr Ashford also stated it doesn’t comply with the minimum care standards under the Regulation of Care Act (2013).
The building has no en-suite facilities, there is one bathroom for every 16 residents and one toilet for every three residents of the home.
