Health Minister David Ashford told a media briefing that the virus ’does not care about people’s ages’.

He added: ’It doesn’t care what you are or who you are. It strikes people in exactly the same way and young people are not invincible no matter how much they think they are.

’There have been horrendous cases around the world, even in the UK, where young people have tragically died from this virus at a very young age. I really would urge young people to consider that.’

Mr Ashford was speaking at a media briefing in which he revealed the age brackets for people in the island who have had coronavirus.

The largest number of island people to have had Covid-19 are aged 50 to 64 years.

A total of 87 people in this age bracket have been confirmed as having had coronavirus during the crisis

But not far behind this are people aged 35 to 49 where 83 positive cases were revealed.

Next come residents aged 20 to 34 where there have been 67 reported cases.

Forty-four people in the 80-plus age bracket have had the illness while 37 people aged 65 to 79 have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

And 18 people aged from nought to 19 have had the disease.

Mr Ashford revealed the age breakdown of 336 Covid-19 cases in the island in answer to a question from Paul Moulton of MTTV.

Here are the figures.
