A new support service has been launched for young people affected by drug abuse and gambling.

Motiv8’s one-year pilot scheme is to be funded by the Manx Lottery Trust.

YP@Motiv8 will provide dedicated support to young people under the age of 18 that are impacted by their own, or someone else’s, drug use, gambling or gaming.

This service links up with Motiv8’s existing services for those affected by their own, or someone else’s alcohol use.

Motiv8 director Thea Ozenturk said: ’We are grateful to the Manx Lottery Trust for recognising the importance of drug, gambling and gaming support services for young people.

’Evidence suggests that early intervention can prevent future addiction problems and build emotional resilience and coping mechanisms in young people.’

Motiv8 celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. It continues to grow and respond to the needs of the island’s community, ensuring that services are dynamic, innovative and accessible.

Young people are able to self-refer to the service.

All health services and agencies can refer and YP@Motiv8 will be spending time over the next few months liaising with them and professionals to raise awareness of the support available.
