The Department of Health and Social Care has now submitted its plans for a 60-bedroom residential care home and day care unit for 20 older residents on the site of the former Glenside residential home in Victoria Road, Douglas (17/00053/B), near Governor’s Bridge.
As the Courier reported when the proposal was first made, the development, Summerhill View, would include a 15-bedroom ’dementia community’.
Outside there would be a sheltered and sunny garden courtyard with raised planters and sensory planting as well as play facilities for visiting families.
It’s intended as a replacement for two existing Douglas care facilities: the Reayrt ny Baie Resource Centre in Albert Terrace and the Sweetbriar Dementia Care Unit in Thie Meanagh in Farmhill.
Glenside closed its doors to residents in 2013 and thendemolished.
