A second member of Steam Packet crew has tested positive for Covid.

The Steam Packet confirmed this morning that an Isle of Man-based crew member, who does not hold a passenger-facing role, is self-isolating after testing positive.

They had the test while off-duty and were placed in immediate isolation.

A UK-based member of the Ben-my-Chree’s crew tested positive last week.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the two cases are linked.

The Steam Packet said in a statement: ’The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company can confirm an Isle of Man-based crew member has tested positive for coronavirus.

’Contact tracing is underway and a handful of colleagues who the individual was in contact with are also self-isolating.

’The Steam Packet has clear hygiene and sanitation policies in place for its crew to prevent Covid spread on both its vessels and at its ports.

The Ben-my-Chree is being deep cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis.’

Health Minister David Ashford insisted there are currently no cases in the community.

He said: ’There are no community cases currently identified.

’All cases identified link back to being close contacts of existing cases.’

Peel Centenary Centre has closed as a precaution for 72 hours after a possible contact of a confirmed case visited the venue.

Dave McLean at the centre said: ’It’s just as a precaution. There is no reason whatsoever to believe there is any danger. We feel it’s sensible to be cautious.’
