A project to replace all the beds in both Noble’s and Ramsey and District Cottage hospitals has been successfully completed.

After a lengthy period of planning, the whole task took just over three days from start to finish - a day less than the original timetable.

A total of 263 brand new beds were deployed at both sites, starting at Ramsey.

All the beds had to be tested by the Electrical and Biomedical Engineering (EBME) team and then washed before they could be moved to the appropriate ward where they were swapped with the existing beds.

Many of the beds they replaced were more than 15 years old and needing frequent maintenance.

Director of nursing Cath Quilliam said she was pleased with the smooth-running of the whole project.

She said: ’This was a real team effort, from the suppliers, Arjo Huntleigh, who brought the beds across from the UK, to the EBME team and all the staff who handled the physical swapping of the beds.

’Not only did we manage to finish the whole project with a day to spare, but it was all completed whilst maintaining patient privacy and dignity and providing uninterrupted patient care.’

The EBME team service and repair medical devices and other electrical or electronic equipment used within the island’s healthcare service.
