Chief Constable Gary Roberts is encouraging our readers to send in their nominations for the Community Police Officer of the Year award.

The award gives members of the public the chance to highlight the work of any officer who has gone the extra mile to help local people.

Mr Roberts said: ’The very best police officers make a positive difference to individuals and, in some cases, to whole communities.

’The Isle of Man has many such officers, who constantly strive to do their best for people who find themselves in need of support and assistance.

’I am delighted that Isle of Man Newspapers recognises this by continuing to promote its community police officer of the year award, which allows members of the public to nominate those officers who have made a difference to them.

’I look forward again to reading the nominations.’

Last year’s winner, Constable Darran Loader, organised work to carry out improvements to an elderly Laxey man’s home and garden.

He gave up his own time and mobilising the community to support 82-year-old Victor Price, following a welfare visit.

As well as the chance to win the award, all officers who are nominated are recognised by having the story of their good work published in the Manx Independent or one of its sister titles.

Nominations close on March 21, after which a judging panel at Isle of Man Newspapers will choose the winner.

The officer who is awarded the prestigious title will receive a trophy at the Chief Constable’s Awards ceremony, which will take place at the Gaiety Theatre on May 21.

Officers can be of any rank and those who have been nominated in previous years can be put forward again. To make a nomination send the name of your chosen officer and your reasons for choosing him or her to [email protected]
