There’s an unusual collection of fixtures in Manx hockey this weekend as the Bridgewaters Plate take pride of place on Saturday, while other teams play catch up fixtures from other competitions.

Pick of the plate quarter-final fixtures for the day is likely to be Castletown Celts v Ramsey.

In the season leading to their relegation from the Premier League last season, Celts beat Ramsey twice, but the northerners have hit a rich vein of form during the past few weeks and, following a season playing higher level hockey, are likely to take victory and progress to the penultimate round.

Castletown Cammags took a surprise draw against Vikings B in the league last week but will do exceptionally well to take a win in the repeat plate fixture this week.

Valkyrs B should have the edge over Vikings C while the other fixture, taking place on Friday night, should see a straightforward win for Bacchas B from the highest division against Vikings D from the lowest.

Elsewhere in the fixture list, three games in Division Two include a Valkyrs club derby, but all attention will be focused on the top of the table.

Vikings C and Ramsey Ravens are equal on points, with Vikings currently holding a better goal difference. If both teams win, Ramsey will need to win by four goals more than Vikings to take the title.

Vikings start as clear favourites with a game against Ramsey Rookies who are fighting for their own survival at the bottom of the table, which could also be settled by goal difference, and will therefore fight for the whole 70 minutes.

Elsewhere, Ramsey Ravens play Bacchas Colts who are on paper a better side than Vikings’ opponents but have nothing to play for at this stage of the season. It will be an intriguing afternoon.
