A Hollywood film director says he want to film his next movie in the island.
But Peter Glanz says the tax incentives offered in Ireland may force him to shoot it there instead.
Following from the success of ’Mindhorn’ which was set, and filmed in the Isle of Man, Mr Glanz explained to MTTV’s Paul Moulton why he wants to film his next movie - a £1m-2m budget period British espionage - here too.
He told him: ’My family are from here and I came here a lot in my youth and I got a lot of nostalgia for the island. There is just such a uniqueness and beauty to the island. It has a magic to it and it is completely antithetical to Los Angeles where I’m from.
’It’s perfect for a period piece set in the 60s, a classic British espionage. It’s got a lot of interesting elements. The island and its isolation adds to the mystique of the story telling.’
But the Hollywood director said that while he wanted to film the move here, Ireland’s tax incentives may prove to big a draw. He said: ’That’s the main struggle. I want to film it here, I wrote it for here, it feels it should be here. I almost reverse-engineered the script and the story to really fit these beautiful places of my youth.
’But Ireland right now has these incredible tax incentives. Yes it’s really tough - it’s a push and pull but I think we are going to be able to make it work here. I’m trying everything in my abilities. Ireland had the infrastructure there, the tax incentives there. But at the same time there’s a lot of benefits to here.
’It’s a miracle when any movie gets made and it’s a miracle when a good one gets made. It’s about casting, scheduling and of course financing is the house of cards.’
He said the production was in the £1m to £2m range. ’I have another one going next year which higher £5m-6m. This is a little more manageable,’ he said.
Mr Glanz said the idea was to make the film in November and December, the ’fog and Manx mist being very cinematic’. He added: ’We are having a budgeting schedule, one made for Ireland and one made for here. We will go through the casting process in the next couple of month to figure out the best model to make the film and hopefully we will end up here.’
