Firefighters were called to reports of a kitchen fire in Castletown in the early hours of Monday.

Crews from Castletown and Rushen attended the incident at around 3.20am and found the property heavily smoke-logged.

Station officer Martin Charker said: ‘Crews from Castletown and Rushen Fire Stations, along with the duty officer, responded to reports of a kitchen fire at a property in Castletown.

‘On arrival, crews found the property heavily smoke-logged, with the smoke alarm sounding.

‘Neighbours had been alerted by the sounding smoke alarm and raised the alarm with the occupiers.

‘Crews extinguished the fire, ventilated the property and made the premises safe for the occupiers to re-enter.

‘This incident highlights the importance of never leaving cooking unattended.’
