Celebrations will be held soon to mark the 125th anniversary of the Manx Electric Railway.

A birthday party being held at Laxey MER station on Sunday (September 2) starting at 10am.

The party is free to attend with the live entertainers, band, singers and folk dancers alongside fairground rides, birthday cake and a photo opportunity with a horse tram (plus horse) and Snaefell Mountain Railway and Manx Electric Railway trams.

On Monday at 9am there will be the launch of restored ratchet car No.14.

Following three years of work by volunteers and Derby Castle workshop staff, Car 14 will celebrate its 120th anniversary with its formal return to service.

Tuesday sees the mail tram re-enactment in partnership with the Post Office.

This involves the mail tram leaving Ramsey at 1.50pm and stopping at each of the nine IOMPO letter boxes on the track side.

The mail tram’s passengers will be presented with special MER postcards and will then post their items.

On Friday at 10am, Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney unveil a plaque to mark the anniversary at Derby Castle, Douglas, followed by an afternoon at Laxey with a cavalcade of trams.
