A charity says it is ’desperately short’ of volunteers for its shops around the island.
Hospice Isle of Man is seeking residents who can spare some of their time to help support its work
The charity, which operates six shops and a warehouse across the island, says it can be flexible regarding shifts to fit around work and will provide full training.
Anne Mills, Hospice chief executive, said: ’Volunteers are the backbone of hospice and through selfless giving of their time we are able to provide more care for patients and families.
’Our shops are very much our front window and very often a first point of contact for people wishing to know more about Hospice.
’It really is Hospice on the High Street’
Volunteer roles in the stores or in another part of the charity could be ideal for a variety of people for any number of reasons.
They would suit young people working towards their Duke of Edinburgh award or seeking to add to their university applications.
And volunteering would be ideal for people seeking to build their self-confidence or life skills to help them towards future employment or just anyone who has relied on the Hospice to care for a loved one.
Mike Kneale, who volunteers in a shop said: ’Volunteering gives me the opportunity to meet people and spread the word of the wonderful care Hospice provides in their various ways.
’As a shop volunteer you can choose when you work and how often.
’I have made many friends through volunteering.
’I am grateful for the personal support given to myself and my family by Hospice’
Hospice has stores in Douglas, Onchan, Ramsey, Peel, Castletown and Port Erin.
