Manx Wild Bird Aid, a charity that rescues and rehabilitates injured and orphaned birds, has raised more than £750 since it started its used stamp and foreign coin collection in April 2018.
Any used stamps can be donated for the charity’s recycling programme and it can also take all types of foreign coins.
Fundraiser Paige Havlin, who runs the collection, said: ’The stamp collection has been a great success and has allowed us to cover our day to day costs and vet bills for the birds.
’All of the funds we raise go directly back to the birds. We had a busy year with 842 birds through our doors, they are all cared for by volunteers and we expect another busy year ahead.
’It would be great to get more people collecting stamps for us, and it would be particularly good to get local businesses, churches and community groups involved. It doesn’t cost anything to do and is a great way for anyone to help us fundraise.’
Evan Darroch, aged 13, recently offered support to the charity for a school project. He set up used stamp and foreign currency collection boxes at his parents’ workplaces and also at the local church and Women’s Institute.
The address to send any stamps or coins is ’MWBA A/O Paige Havlin, 13 Victoria Place, Douglas, IM2 4ET’. There is also a collection box at the address to leave any donations.
