Kirree Kermode lives and works on her family farm at Orrisdale, near Ballasalla.

She breeds, sells and prepares pedigree sheep for display through the family business, ’Orrisdale Pedigrees’, which also breed pedigree cattle.

Away from the farm, she is a freelance broadcaster, and co-presents the Manx Radio Countryside Programme, alongside Simon Clark.

One of her sheep was named as second reserve champion at the recent Royal Agricultural Show.

What is your idea of a perfect meal?

Rib-eye steak and peppercorn sauce, eaten alongside great company.

What is your favourite way to relax?

Going abroad to a sunny destination, where the phone signals are weak and the gin is strong !

What is your greatest extravagance?

Sheep. I daren’t admit how much they cost! But they’re worth it, in my opinion.

Do you have any pets?

I have five working sheepdogs. They are more like my best friends and I’d be completely lost without them.

What is your greatest achievement?

I love sports. One of my earliest achievements was smashing the discus record at Castle Rushen High School that had stood for many years. From there I went on to break island records and achieve standards to compete in the Island Games and inter-counties of England. I also represented the island for netball. Latterly, winning with our pedigree livestock in various UK competitions is a huge success for our family business, not forgetting last weeks supreme champion of champions at the Southern Show local. It’s always a team effort, from coaches to farm helpers and family. I could not have achieved any of it without them.

What is your favourite time of the year?

Summer. I love the bright long days, and this year in particular has been amazing.

What is the first job you ever had?

Apart from two weeks in my uncle’s butchers shop in Laxey, it’s been work on my family’s farm since leaving school at 16.

Do you have any irrational fears?

Not really, but fire in the wrong place does scare me.

What is your worst habit? Talking too much!

What is your favourite book?

I love autobiographies, but on a daily basis, I read livestock journals of any description!

What is your favourite TV programme?

I don’t watch TV through summer but in winter I like grand designs and Restoration Man.

What is your favourite band/artist at the moment?

Ed Shearen

What is your favourite part of the Isle of Man?

We farm along the east coast so I find myself drawn to coastal areas, Jackdaw bay, near Port Grenaugh beach, and Santon Gorge are two of my favourites.

What is the last show/band that you saw live?

James Blunt at the Villa, I’ve always liked him to the point I was given the same CD for Christmas by three different people!

If time/money were no object, what would be your perfect day?

Spent at sea on a super yacht, somewhere hot with family and friends.

Choose three people, dead or alive, to invite to dinner?

Winston Churchill, Alexander Fleming and Robert Bakewell, a leading figure of the British agricultural revolution. Their stories would be incredible.
