Marilyn Cannell, 71, is a well-known local musician, and lives in Kirk Michael.
She is a pianist, a former music teacher and is currently the musical director of the Ramsey-based theatre group Cloideryn.
One of her first jobs was playing the piano at the Howstrake holiday camp, and was the accompanist at the Guild music festival for 25 years.
She has also played for various local choirs, and is the current church organist in Kirk Michael Church.
She has recently won three classes in this years Guild. What is your idea of a perfect meal?
For me, a perfect meal is one spent eating outside with friends and family. Nothing too posh.
What is your favourite way to relax?
I like to relax by doing crosswords.
What is your greatest extravagance?
It would be buying books.
Do you have any pets?
Two cats, Henry the second and Hoppy. We say that Hoppy is a Manx cat as it only has three legs.
What is your greatest achievement?
Producing four daughters, Emily, Ruth, Eleanor and Chrissie. They are all different with independent lives. I’m amazed that I managed to stay sane in the process.
What is your favourite time of the year?
I love the time around early May, with the spring flowers and blossoms, and usually it’s not too hot.
What is the first job you ever had?
I had a summer job at Quirk’s bakery, washing trays during the 1966 World Cup.
Do you have any irrational fears?
Computers and anything digital. My brain freezes if the gadgets don’t work.
What is your worst habit?
Listening in to other people’s conversations and trying to work out the context.
What is your favourite book?
It would be any book of poetry. I never re-read novels.
What is your favourite TV programme?
My regular favourite show is Country file, but at the moment, I am enjoying the final seasons of Game of Thrones and Line of Duty.
What is your favourite band/artist at the moment?
Emilie Sande. I like her new single, ’Sparrow’. It has a catchy tune, and it also has a philosophical message.
What is your favourite part of the Isle of Man?
Kirk Michael. You have the sea and the hills. It has been my home now for 45 years.
What is the last show/band that you saw live?
I recently saw the Four Seasons tribute show ’Walk LIke A Man’ at the Centenary Centre, with local lad Jonathon Eio in it.
If time/money were no object, what would be your perfect day?
It would start with a spa morning, followed by afternoon tea with family, and a choral/orchestral concert in the evening.
Choose three people, dead or alive, to invite to dinner?
Oscar Wilde for his wit and humour, Sandi Toksvig for her brains and personality, and Michelle Obama whose autobiography I have just read.
