Erin Ann Loach is 15 and a student at Ballakermeen High School, where she is curently studying for her GCSE qualifications.
Erin, who lives in Douglas with her family, mum Sandra and father John, has already made a name for herself as one of the island’s best up-and-coming singers.
She is a regular champion at the Guild, winning the Girls’ solo in Manx Gaelic up to Year 10 for the past three years, and also this year she won the Girl’s Solo in English, years nine and 10, going on to compete for the Sheffield Plate. Erin is also a member of the Manx Childrens’ Choir, along with her two younger sisters Frances and Kirsten.
Last week, Erin was named the 2018 Young Singer of Mann, after coming through two levels of competition that featured 20 young singers between the ages of eight and 15 years of age.
What is your idea of a perfect meal?
My favourite meal is anything Italian.
What is your favourite way to relax?
I sing to relax.
What is your greatest extravagance?
My greatest extravagance is my drawing tablet.
Do you have any pets?
I have two cats.
What is your greatest achievement?
I think that winning my class in the year nine to 10s girls’ solo this year, in the guild, is my greatest achievement in life so far.
What is your favourite time of the year?
My favourite time of the year is autumn.
What is the first job you ever had?
I’ve never had a job as such however I occasionally do some babysitting for family friends and I also like to volunteer to help out at the Manx Blind Welfare’s charity shop.
Do you have any irrational fears?
I am petrified of deep water.
What is your worst habit? My worst habit is probably biting my lip when I concentrate hard in class. I also do it when I’m extremely nervous.
What is your favourite book? My favourite book is ’The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time’, a story about a young boy with Asperger’s syndrome by the writer Mark Haddon.
What is your favourite TV programme?
My favourite TV programme at the moment is a Japanese Manga anime series, called Attack On Titan.
What is your favourite band/artist at the moment?
My favourite band is the American punk group Green Day.
What is your favourite part of the Isle of Man?
I love all the amazing glens and landscapes on the Isle of Man.
What is the last show/band that you saw live?
The last time I saw a show live it was a bunch of circus acts in Belfast.
If time/money were no object, what would be your perfect day?
My perfect day would be an entire day where I could sit and sing all day. As well as being into rock music, I’m also in love with the musical Hamilton.
Choose three people, dead or alive, to invite to dinner?
I’d invite Chester Bennington, who was the singer in the group Linkin Park, the Green Day singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and the American author Malorie Blackman, who wrote the Noughts and Crosses series of books.
