Two of Britain’s leading comedians are teaming up for a new show that will hit the island’s shores later this year.

’An Evening Shared with Jasper Carrott and Alistair McGowan’ sees the legendary stand-up comedian and the top TV impressionist appear at the Gaiety Theatre on Friday, December 13.

At the grand age of 70, Jasper Carrott is widely regarded as the godfather of British comedy.

He teamed up with Alistair McGowan after the pair performed a one-off comedy show at the Henley comedy festival in 2014.

The mix of Jasper’s gentle, classic stand-up comedy and Alistair’s razor-sharp observational impressions proved such a hit that they decided to go out on a UK-wide tour, with each comedian splitting the bill and performing their own short sets.

’It works well because there are two different approaches to comedy,’ said Jasper.

’With Alistair the fascination is that you never know who he is. So you never know what’s coming.

’Between us we bring 60 years of experience to the stage.

’After last year we both wanted to do more together. For me the chance to work with such an accomplished performer as Alistair is a dream come true.’

Alistair McGowan is best known for his work on the TV shows ’Dead Ringers’ and ’Spitting Image’, where he would accurately and mercilessly lampoon the famous political and celebrity figures of the day.

He later starred in his own show, the BAFTA-winning ’Big Impression’, with co-star Ronni Ancona, which was one of the BBC highest-rated shows of 2003.

These shows may well be the final ones of Jasper’s 40-year career.

After hosting many of his own stand-up shows on BBC and ITV, alongside appearing in countless TV sitcoms, comedy shows and films, he said this tour might be his last.

’Just past my 70th year, this might be my last series of shows,’ said Jasper. ’It means I can go out on a high in the best comedy company.’

Tickets for ’An Evening Shared with Jasper Carrott and Alistair McGowan’ are priced between £17.50 and £27.50, with a box for £100, available from the Welcome Centre and the Villa Gaiety box office, or online from villagaiety.com
