Three touring musicians left their mark on the island after charming saudiences with their well crafted folk music.
The UK and Canadian duo Uphill and Still, featuring Jon Marleau and Maddy Hill, along with fellow folk singer Jon Lepp, travelled to the Isle of Man last weekend to perform their own mini-tour.
They played three shows across the island, beginning at the Mitre Hotel, in Ramsey, supported by Adam Melvin, followed by a night at the Peel Centenary Centre, where they were joined by the Fecktones.
The tour finished off in Laxey on Saturday night, where they performed at the Institute with local singer-songwriters Matt Kelly and Jeff Jepson.
The Peel concert in particular was a very friendly and informal night of music, beginning with a short set from Jon, followed by a few songs from Maddy and Jon that showed of both their gorgeous, pitch-perfect harmonies, particularly evident in their song ’Farmhand’s Curse’ and their skills and talents on a wide range of instruments, swapping between mandolin, guitar, banjo and wash board perfectly displayed on ’The banks of the Brue’.
They finished the evening off with several raucous sea shanties alongside the Fecktones, with Maddy swapping harmonies with singer Andy North.
’We can’t thank everyone enough for the unreal time we had during our time on the island,’ said Jon, afterwards.
’We will absolutely be back.’
