The organisers of the memorial day, held in the name of the much-missed music promoter Jonno Gollow, have said they are delighted with the response they have received.

Friends and former work colleagues of Jonno organised a ’Wear your band T-shirt to work’ day, and also held a weekend of gigs with UK singer-songwriter Alex Hulme, who had previously worked with Jonno.

The talented solo artist gave three concerts over the weekend, at the Railway, Douglas, at the Foraging Vintners bar in Port Erin and at an afternoon gig in the Mitre, Ramsey.

More than £890 was raised through donations of people wearing T-shirts, which will be donated to the Soundcheck youth music project, a cause that Jonno was keen to support.

Mark Armstrong said there were plans being put in place to make the T-shirt day an annual occasion.

’The guys are already talking about "Wear an old gig T-shirt for Jonno" being an annual event,’ said Mark.

’It was great to see so many people involved across the island.

’The Facebook postings were coming through thick and fast, and there were plenty of pictures of shirts that had seen better days.

’Soundcheck will be receiving a solid donation towards their ongoing efforts in memory of Jonno, who was a trustee of the charity.

’It was fantastic to see some of the Soundcheck team at the Railway in the evening, listening to and singing along with Alex Hulme, and suitably kitted out in their old, and not-so old band shirts.

’They have already invited Alex back to the Isle of Man in the summer to play on the Soundcheck stage at Dark Horse festival.

’All in all, it was an appropriate start to the month of events planned to "Remember Jonno",’ he said.

There are more events lined up to mark the life of Jonno.

On Wednesday night, a special meeting of the Blues Club took place, also at the Railway Inn, of which Jonno regularly attended, and a concert featuring local musicians who Jonno promoted, or featured in his concerts, such as Truman Falls, Christy De HavenMatt Creer and Clash Vooar, will take place at the Peel Centenary Centre on Saturday, April 14.
