A party organised by a Miss Isle of Man contestant has raised more than £1,000 for St John Ambulance.

The Princess Party in the the Park event was organised by Joy White and held in the Villa Marina gardens.

Joy, who lives in Douglas but is originally from Peel, is one of the finalists in the Miss Isle of Man 2017 Community Challenge with each contestant challenged to raise as much money as possible for their nominated charity ahead of the final on Saturday, August 5.

Joy, aged 25, said: ’When I started out on my fundraising journey I knew I wanted to do something big and family-orientated to get people talking about St John Ambulance. I decided upon trying to recreate my own little Disneyland in Douglas, and I started to plan the Princess Party in the Park. It was a very turbulent journey to pull this together, as I’d never had any events organisation experience prior to Miss Isle of Man, and due to unforeseen circumstances the event was very nearly cancelled. Luckily we got some support at the 11th hour from Utmost Wealth Solutions which gave us just enough to carry on planning. I was overwhelmed by the turnout, and kids and grown ups alike seemed to really enjoy the day.’
