An event originally intended to be held tonight to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee has been cancelled.

South Douglas Old Friends’ Association was going to hold a variety show with local talent.

The chairman of the club, David Cretney, said: ‘It has been decided that a celebration of this nature at this time would be inappropriate.

‘It is to be rescheduled on a Saturday night in October and further details will be announced soon. It will now be a “ Celebration of the Queen’s life variety show”.’

The club thanked everyone who had booked tickets for the show for their understanding and look forward to a special evening of entertainment celebrating Elizabeth II a few weeks’ time.

Yesterday, the club, based on Finch Road, held a Platinum Jubilee tea dance.

Joining members of the club were residents of Hazel Court and Waverley Court in Douglas, Isle of Man Live at home members, Castletown Over 60s club and the Manx Retirement Association

.A raffle was held with the prizes presented by Sarah Maltby MHK and everyone enjoyed a free buffet.
