To mark Fairtrade Fortnight there’s a warm welcome guaranteed at Dalby schoolrooms on Thursday, March 9, starting at 7.30pm, when Jude Needham will show the film she and Neil made during their trip to Kathmandu.
They visited the Kumbeshwar Technical School (KTS), a fairtrade knitwear producer in Kathmandu, that train and employ more than 3,000 women and run a primary school, children’s hostel and carpentry course with the proceeds and then supply Shakti Man in Ramsey with some of their produce.
Everyone is welcome to come and see this example of how fair trade benefits the lives of a community, and at the same time, take in some stunning photography of a trek around Dhaulagiri, the sixth highest mountain in the world.
St James Dalby is a Fairtrade church and supports and promotes the sale of fair trade produce. Fair trade refreshments with home cooked fair trade goodies will be available as well as items to buy from the Dalby Fair trade Cupboard Shop. No admission charge, but after costs proceeds from the raffle and donations will go to support the ongoing work KTS.
