Kelly, the Isle of Man Newspapers’ occasional racing tipster, has been poring over the runners in the Grand National which gets under way this afternoon (Saturday).

Thirty-eight horses will now go to post for the big race, which is due off at 5.15pm after Regal Encore and Walk in the Mill were ruled out of the race this morning. (Saturday)

Here are his selections for the race which will be shown live on ITV.

1 . . . . BAIE DES ILES. E/W. This could be the year a woman jockey wins the race. Kelly believes Baie Des Iles could run a great race for experienced Katie Walsh. This horse is trained in Ireland by her husband Ross O’Sullivan. Walsh, the brother of injured jockey Ruby Walsh, knows her way round the Aintree course and the horse should do well in challenging conditions.

2 . . . . WARRIORS TALE. E/W. Isle of Man based owner Trevor Hemmings is bidding for his fourth victory in the race. Warriors Tale is trainer Paul Nicholls and has been a big price all week. He could be the ‘under the radar’ type of horse that does well. He is Hemmings’ only runner in the race after Vicente was withdrawn yesterday because of the heavy ground.

3 . . . . RAZ DE MAREE E/W. This race of more than four miles could turn to a slog in the rain-sodden ground. But this horse won the Welsh version of the race at the notoriously tough Chepstow. So we can keep our fingers crossed for a good run - and leading Irish jockey Robbie Power is on board.

4 . . . . TOTAL RECALL E/W. Irish trainer Willie Mullins likes this horse ridden by Paul Townend who has a great record at Aintree. Soft ground conditions should not worry Total Recall. Mullins would love another National victory. His last triumph was Hedgehunter in 2005, owned by Trevor Hemmings.
