Kimberley Moore may have multiple sclerosis but that hasn’t stopped her from raising more than £7,000 for the island branch of the MS Society.

Kimberley raised £4,000 by taking part in this year’s Parish Walk, completing the 42 miles to Ballaugh.

Further fundraisers since then have brought the fundraising total up to an astonishing £7,226.06.

Kimberley, aged 28, of Castletown, has used the society’s services since being diagnosed with the neurological condition two years ago.

She said their assistance - particularly in giving psychological support after the shock of diagnosis - has been invaluable.

The society also funds research into the disease.

Strange sensations of pain in her head and feelings in her feet alerted Kimberley to the fact something was wrong.

Now her main symptoms are pains around her head, sore legs and arms, ’weird sensations like numbness, pins and needles’ and fatigue.

’Eating healthily and exercising are key to keeping well, so why not take part in the gruelling Parish Walk?,’ Kimberley said.

She admitted to being ’not really the most active person’ and trained for the event by walking with friends several times a week

Funds have been boosted further by Kimberley’s employers, Standard Bank Isle of Man.

Staff took part in a fundraising challenge which included a sausage roll sale, a Love Island Event and a raffle.

Standard Bank paid out £500 to each of the eight teams’ chosen charities.

Derek Patience, chairman of the Isle of Man MS Society, said: ’Kimberley’s tenacity in walking 42 miles highlights that having MS doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world and she is an example to us all, whether or not we have MS, of the difference that a strong-willed approach can make.

’We’d like to say a huge thank you to Kimberley and to Standard Bank and their employees, from whom we’ve received tremendous support from over the years.’

Meanwhile Kimberley thanked friends and family who have supported her.
