Kevin Lane and Nikki Bardsley were crowned champions of the 12th annual Billy Moughtin Darts Tournament which took place at the Manor on Saturday, writes Paul Hatton.
Throughout the day, the Willaston public house was packed to the rafters for the annual competition.
The event continues to go from strength to strength, with a record number of entries taking part this year - 115 players in total featuring 80 men and 35 women - culminating in the finals later on in the evening.
The finalists made their way to the oche amidst the fanfare of loud music and cheers from the spectators before the business end of the competition took place.
In the women’s competition Bardsley beat last year’s winner Wendy Andrews 3-2, while in the men’s Lane got the better of defending champion Robbie Nelson 3-0. This was the first time Lane and Bardsley had won the tournament.
There were additional awards for the semi-finalists as follows: Men’s - Scott Bowden and Simon Brown; Women’s - Nicola Libreri-Lane and Vicky Cannan. Highest finish: Men’s - Robbie Nelson 161; Women’s - Pauline Brown 110. Furthest youth player - Billy Coulter who finished in the final 32.
The event raised £1,543.40 which has been donated to Cruse Bereavement. The organisers would like to thank everyone who were involved, whether it was selling football cards or raffles prizes, Tony and Jan at the Manor plus John Denny and daughter Sarah for ensuring that the event ran smoothly.
