Party pieces, party poppers and patriotic flag waving is all promised at the popular Manx Last Night of the Proms, which takes place this Saturday, September 23 at the Gaiety Theatre.
2016 Cleveland Medal winner Paul Costain will team up with Manx Concert Brass for an occasion to savour the traditional gala night of pomp and ceremony
He’ll be singing a range of music from Porgy and Bess, Vaughan Williams’ The Vagabond and traditional local favourite ’Pride of Phurt Le Moirrey’, through to Elvis Presley’s chart-topper I Can’t Help Falling in Love . He will also be singing some classic songs from the musicals, such as If I Were A Rich Man from the musical Fiddler on the Roof.
The organisers promise that there’ll be something for everyone, for both the more serious music lovers and those who simply enjoy the finale and need an excuse to dress up for the night.
The Manx Concert Brass band will also perform rousing renditions of classics such as Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance, Land of Hope and Glory and Hubert Parry’s Jerusalem, which is celebrating its 101st birthday this year, along with the ever popular Fantasia on British Sea-Songs.
Tickets are £15 for adults, £12.50 for seniors and £5 for under-16s, available from the box office on 600555, the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal and at villagaiety.com
