Christ Church Laxey is getting set for a busy few weeks following lockdown.

The church will be holding its first service this Sunday (June 28) at 10.30am, which will focus on praise and thanksgiving due to reopening once again after the pandemic.

Simultaneously it will begin a week-long Flower Festival with the theme being ’key workers’.

The ’Welcome Centre’ at the church will also open its doors to the public after the 10.30am service. This will run daily from 10am to 4pm for residents to discover more about the island’s heritage.

Jo Dudley, priest of Christ Church Laxey, called the pandemic an ’interesting time’ for the church.

She said: ’I’m of a certain generation that doesn’t do digital communication at all. It was very much "welcome to the world of Zoom". It is something that might carry on.

’It’s really brought us together. The church is not a building, it’s the people.

’I think people have woken up to the fact that a church doesn’t mean opening a cold building for an hour on a Sunday.’
