The St John’s Aikido Club is offering two free starter classes on January 2 and 9.

Organisers say anyone who is interested in finding about the club or the way the club practises can see what it is like without having to make any commitment.

Club instructor David Halsall said: ’If you want to teach your children to defend themselves without bullying others or fearing they will be bullied themselves then we can teach them a way to avoid trouble and stand up for themselves.

’There are many classes that promise respect through fear but we teach students to be confident in themselves and gain respect of others by being non-aggressive or threatening.’

Classes are held at the St John’s Methodist hall at 7pm on Thursdays.
