The Gaiety Theatre will be hit by an explosion of pink later this week.

The Manx operatic Society is to perform ’Legally Blonde-The Musical’ , the theatrical version of the hit film.

The production features a huge cast of 31 singers and dancers, plus the talents of two small dogs , and opens on Saturday, March 18 for a week long run.

The story features Elle Woods, who is desperate to shake off her ’dizzy blonde’ tag, and prove to her friends and to herself that she is much more than just a pretty face.

Set in an American Sorority house, it appears that Elle has it all. However, her life is turned up side sown when her boyfriend dumps her, claiming that he needs a more serious girlfriend if he is to move on in life.

Elle sets her sights on winning him back, and embarks on a rollercoaster journey, using her charms to gain a place at Harvard law school.

She soon finds herself way out of her depth, and is forced to tackle stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in her quest to prove herself to her all those around her.

The title role of Elle will be played by Anne-Marie Craine, and her boyfriend, Warner Huntington III, by David Lyons.

Liam Kaneen plays Emmett Forrest, Lisa Dancox plays

Paulette Bounafonte and the role of Professor Callahan will be played by John Snelling.

The play will be directed by Anthony Williams, who said that this production is a huge undertaking.

’Its huge, its vast, its a big all singing all dancing musical, set in relatively modern day America,’ he said. We have this massive two ton house set that turns around. Its a big, big production.’

However, the show is a riot of colour and packed with showpiece songs and dance routines, and Anthony believes it is a perfect show for the family.

’I think people associate Legally Blonde as a girls’ show,’ he said. ’But it is almost a big old fashioned musical, but very modern, suitable for all the family. There is a lot of humour, and little bit of drama, but its basically a fun, all singing, all dancing musical.

Tickets are on sale from the Villa gaiety box office, starting from £22.
