After what organisers say was a ’very successful’ first year, Cafe Lingo will re-open on Saturday, October 7, with a new format for teaching English for free to non-native speakers.

Cafe Lingo has so far taught English to more than 90 people of all abilities and different faiths from 23 different nationalities.

The organisers say: ’It is all done in a warm and sociable way and is run entirely by volunteers, supported by Promenade Church.’

With the new format, it will run as follows:

10 to 10.40am - Basic English for beginners and those who want to revise.

10.40 to 11am - A cuppa and a chat.

11am to noon - Everyday English for those who already know some of the language.

Students may choose to come to one or both sessions.

These cover a wide range of weekly themes and have occasional guest speakers.

There are also activities for students’ children and grandchildren, who are welcome to go under supervision, while their parents learn.
