Ramsey’s lifeboat was called to rescue windsurfer last night.
The RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat launched at around 7pm, following an alert from a concerned member of the public.
The lifeboat sped to the reported position, somewhere north of Ramsey Harbour stone piers.
Sea conditions were slight to moderate with an onshore breeze. The tide was incoming.
In arrival at the scene the crew discovered that the windsurfer had made their own way safely to the shore.
After a quick welfare check the lifeboat and her volunteer crew stood down and returned to station.
Coxswain Mark Kenyon said: ’Fortuitously the windsurfer was not in danger and, as far as we can ascertain, had taken adequate safety precautions, for which he is to be commended. However, we would also like to thank the concerned person who made the emergency call.
’The RNLI emphasises that if you see someone in the water and you think they may be in trouble then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Importantly don’t go into the water yourself as you may also end up in danger.’
