Lifeboats were launched 42 times in Manx waers in 2022, with the crews saving two lives.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution published the figure this week.

Port St Mary was the busiest station, launching 12 times. Volunteer crews from Douglas and Peel both launched 10 times in 2022 and more than half of those launches were in darkness.

Ramsey launched eight times and Port Erin lifeboat launched twice. In comparison, across the island, lifeboats launched 48 times in 2021.

The charity is appealing for more funds.

It is now urging the public to take part in what it calls the ‘Mayday Mile’ by walking or jogging a mile in any way you like every day in May.
