Dragracing fans are revving up for a spectacular event that promises to be faster, noisier and more thrilling than ever.
The 2017 PokerStars Isle of Man Dragracing Festival takes place this weekend (September 2-3) at Jurby Motordrome.
And once again top teams from the UK will be in attendance on two and four wheels to race up the Jurby 1/4mile dragstrip.
The Manx Drag Racing Association along with the Straightliners have been running this event for eight years now. But this year there is a new track position and new concrete startline surface giving the teams a much grippier start to improve their 1/4mile times.
The bikes in attendance include from the UK Phil Wood on his Suzuki, Paul Callow from Peel on his Turbo Huyabusa and Gary Leech from Kirk Michael on his Kawasaki.
As it is a new track, the record is to be set so they will all be out for the win.
As for the cars, five teams are making the trip over from the UK, including one from the Isle of Wight.
Mark Flavel in his Funny car capable of 7.2sec at 195mph over the 1/4mile will be the favourite but with so much power, 2000+bhp, Mark may struggle to get the grip on the new surface.
Local Ian Merryweather from Ballaugh with his 1000bhp 1937 Fiat Topolino will be gunning for the record. Although not as powerful, Ian has run a best of 8.5sec at 158mph.
The four other teams are Sam Freeman in his Altered Dragster, Mick Taylor in his 1948 Fordson van, Ronnie Mercer in his 1949 Ford Pop and Paul Watts with his 1957 Chevrolet.
To take part all you need is a car or bike which will pass a basic scrutineering test, a helmet (and leathers for a bike) and a full driving licence. For more info go to www.manxdragracing.com
