One of the finest Irish musicians of the 20th century is to be remembered with a special tribute concert in Peel this weekend.
Chris Kavanagh will return to the island with his show ’The Legend of Luke Kelly’, appearing at the Peel Centenary Centre for a show on Saturday August 5.
Luke Kelly was an Irish singer, musicians and composer, who died in 1984, aged just 44.
Through his short life he forged a reputation as a talented banjo player and a gifted song writer and story teller, He was an original member of the quintessential Irish folk group The Dubliners, and subsequently toured the world, bringing Irish music to a new audience.
It is said that whole of Ireland grieved his early death, and he is remembered and revered as an Irish icon and cultural treasure.
Chris Kavanagh is also a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Dublin, and he has been influenced by the music of Luke Kelly from an early age.
Together with a talented backing band, Chris has developed this tribute to an Irish musical icon, which has seen him since share a stage with the original Dubliners on many an occasion.
