Marown Commissioners will hold a by-election following the resignation of one of its members.

John Lovelady, who had served on the board since 2021, has stepped down from his position, leaving one seat to be filled.

An election notice issued by the local authority confirms that nominations opened on Wednesday, September 2.

Candidates must submit a completed nomination paper and declaration of relevant interests to the deputy returning officer Jenny Devereau between 10am on September 2 and 1pm on Wednesday, September 9.

If only one candidate is nominated, that person will be elected without a poll.

However, if more than one candidate comes forward, residents will be asked to vote in a contested election on Thursday, October 8.

Those wishing to stand can obtain nomination papers and declarations of relevant interests from the deputy returning officer, or download them from the Isle of Man Government's local authority elections website.

The by-election comes as local authorities across the island prepare for a number of changes following the 2026 local election cycle.

Residents entitled to vote who are unable to attend a polling station may also apply for a postal vote or, where eligible, appoint a proxy.

The deadline for postal vote applications depends on where the ballot is to be completed. Applications for postal voting within the Isle of Man must be submitted by September 30, while those intending to complete their ballot elsewhere in the British Isles have until September 24. The deadline for overseas postal voting is September 15.

Anyone wishing to appoint a proxy must submit their application by 5pm on October 7.
