A local theatre group are to stage a production of one of the most classic pieces of American literature.
Parker and Snell will bring ’To Kill A Mockingbird’ to the Gaiety Theatre over four nights, between Thursday 27 and Saturday 29, May, with three evening shows, from 7.30pm and a matinee on Saturday afternoon, from 2.30pm.
The play will feature Carl Parker in the role of Atticus Finch, the lawyer who defends Tom Robinson, played by David Castro in a court case held against a backdrop of deeply-held racial tensions in Alabama, during the great depression.
’To Kill a Mockingbird’ has never been staged on the Isle of Man and Carl believes that, despite being set more than 100 years ago, the general themes of the play, exploring racial prejudice, compassion and the courage to do what is right,
still resonates today.
’We are delighted to bring this production to the Gaiety Theatre,’ said Carl.
’It’s never been done at the Gaiety before and has important themes running through the play which are still very relevant today.
’Although the novel deals with serious racial issues, the story is also renowned for its warmth and humour.’
Tickets are from £18 to £20, available online from villagaiety.com
