Ramsey was hit by a power cut yesterday.

At 5.45pm 1,150 customers lost their electricity and a loud bang was heard in the town.

Half an hour later, source of the fault had been established which allowed Manx Utlities Authority staff to restore supplies to about 650 customers.

In the North Shore area however, about 500 properties remained off supply until 9pm.

Loss of supply was caused by a failure in the North Shore substation.

The failure was initiated by the rupture of switchgear contained within the substation and the noise from this failure would have easily been heard in the area.
