There was an island feel to a recent music night in Liverpool last week, thanks to an appearance by a Manx rock *’ roll band.
Mad Daddy appeared at the Free Rock * Roll night, held at the Sounds club in Duke Street, Liverpool on Thursday, May 17.
The punk rockabilly group, which feature Dolyn Clucas-Morris on guitar and vocals, former Tholtan Builders Fergus Hook on harmonica and Simon Morris on drums, and also James Rowbottom on bass, played alongside Liverpool groups the Mighty Bossmags and The Res Men, earning high praise from local journalist Martin Sheehan, who wrote: ’These guys produced a set that rocked the foundations. Imagine Elvis on a pogo stick, imagine The Meteors, imagine The Cramps, Imagine Rotten on The King Kurt vibe.
’They stormed through their set, a collection of punkabilly blues rock’*’roll, with the crowd happily bouncing off the walls.
’Personally speaking, this was my favourite set from a free r&r night in 2018 up to now. Loved it!’
Following their Liverpool adventure, Mad Daddy are now looking forward to a busy TT fortnight.
The four-piece are to play at the Creek, in Peel on Sunday, May 27, at the Hooded Ram tent on Tuesday, 29 and head north to the Silly Moos campsite, Lezayre, on Mad Sunday, June 2.
