A local punk rock and roll group have followed up on the universally positive reviews of their debut full album with the release of a new single.
Riding high after the release of their first, self-titled full release, Mad Daddy released their new single ’Ride With Me’ last week.
The single release is accompanied by a stunning video, filmed and produced by island-based filmmaker Felipe Kowalczuk and Open Water films.
The video sees the group hop on board a vintage American truck and hurtle across a series of landscapes and places, before finishing off taking on the bikes at the TT throughout the fast-paced, three-minute song.
The band, who feature singer and harmonica player Dolyn Clucas-Morris, bassist James ’Elvis Palooka’ Rowbottom, drummer Matt Twist and guitarist Liam Callow, have been showered with glowing reviews for their album and are being championed by the rock music web magazine Louder Than War.
’Believe it or not, the video was actually shot in front of a green screen and we never left the driveway,’ said Dolyn.
’But the car was real. It’s a 1949 Ford F1 American pickup, which belongs to a local guy called Norman Cunningham, who kindly let us use it for the video.
’The idea behind the video was to create a crazy road trip on the highway to hell, via the Isle of Man. It was heavily influenced by Mad Max, but on a budget of a few hundred quid. So you could say it was quite ambitious.
’It was a classic low-budget shoot, with lots of challenges to overcome.
’The green screen was too small, so we had to use two. ’Furthermore the frames were very lightweight, and kept blowing over in the wind, so we had to have three or four of us try hold them and stop them rippling in the wind while we did individual shots.
’Again editing was a challenge and with the amount of effects Felipe had to use, it was pushing his editing software to the limit. It ended up taking him about a month to put it together, but he did a great job.
’In the end, it was a great experience and I think we’re all really happy with how it’s turned out.
’The feedback has been great. Readers can check it out for themselves on YouTube, as well as our two previous videos.
’Now on to the next one.’
The ’Mad Daddy album was released on CD and download earlier this month and is available via their bandcamp page. They hope to have a green vinyl edition out later this year.
