Now that lockdown is over, it’s time to get out and celebrate Ska Saturday.
The island’s favourite bunch of rude boys, Buncha Skankers, are heading to the Villa Marina for a spectacular one-off concert on the Royal Hall stage on Saturday, May 15, from 8pm.
What was, at one time, going to be an Easter ska extravaganza, held under the title of ’Easkar Saturday’ has now been re-arranged, following the concert’s inevitable postponement, because of the recent lockdown.
However, the Skankers are determined to show that they will carry on playing the skanking-est sounds around.
Buncha Skankers are one of the island’s most popular bands, and led by singer and bouncing frontman Andy Marshall.
They play a host of ska and two-tone classics, by the likes of Madness, The Specials, The Beat and Bad Manners, including the songs Night Boat to Cairo, Lip Up Fatty, Monkey Man, One Step Beyond and many more.
They have previously supported the ska legends The Selector, also at the Villa Marina, and are the traditional party band at the Bushy’s big stage during TT week.
They will be joined by the reformed local 80s group Klever Shirts, who got back together recently after a short lay-off of around 35 years.
Tickets for the evening are £10, available from the Welcome Centre and the Villa Gaiety box office, on 600555, and online from villagaiety.com
