A man who committed another offence just days after being put on probation has had his probation order extended.

We previously reported that Karl Allen Cameron was sentenced to 12 months probation last Thursday after admitting indecent exposure and attempted theft.

This Tuesday he was back in court again where he admitted stealing a tips jar from a bar only two days after he was sentenced.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes discharged the previous probation order and issued a new one, to run for two years.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court how 32-year-old Cameron went into HQ Bar on Empire Terrace in Douglas on November 27 at 9.40pm.

The barmaid noticed he had a cut on his hand so went to get him a plaster.

However, while she was away from the bar, Cameron went behind it and took a tips jar from above the cash till which was said to contain £180.

CCTV footage captured the incident and Cameron, whose address was given as no fixed abode, was later arrested.

When interviewed he answered ’no comment’ to all questions.

The court heard that Cameron had been sentenced to nine months custody at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on November 19, but had been time-served after spending so much time on remand.

Defence advocate Paul Rodgers said that Cameron had spent 223 days longer on remand than the actual sentence he received, and asked for this to be taken into account. Mr Rodgers said that his client had a long history of issues with drugs and hadn’t yet had any interventions from probation.

High Bailiff Mrs Hughes said that the crime was a ’mean offence’ committed while the bartender was trying to help Cameron.

He was also ordered to pay £180 compensation to the bar and £125 prosecution costs, which he will pay at a rate of £20 per week, deducted from benefits.
