A man will be walking the TT course to raise funds for the Manx Heart Foundation in memory of a friend.

David Ferran, of Ramsey, is taking on the 38-mile walk on Saturday.

He is walking in memory of Sue Kermeen who died at 46 in a traffic collision last year.

David met Sue through his wife, Charlotte, and was a friend to her for eight years.

Sue’s family has a history of heart problems and she is believed to have suffered herself, so David felt the choice of charity was right.

The 32-year-old said: 'I think it’s very close and very touching to the family so I thought that would be the best charity to go for.’

David chose the TT course because Sue was a massive fan of the TT races.

He said: 'She was all about the atmosphere, obviously the racing itself and just having a good time really.

'I’m a big fan too. I’ve got a motorbike myself. I grew up around it because my dad used to race back home in Northern Ireland.’

David has completed the Parish Walk to Peel in the past and is an avid walker himself.

He added: 'I’m looking forward to it, I can’t wait.

'I like getting out and about, plus you see the island from a different perspective because you don’t often see an awful lot when you’re driving, you get to see more of our beautiful island when you’re walking.’

He has already collecting just under £700, his original goal being £500.

David continued: ’This is the first time so I’m quite shocked and surprised at how much I have raised so far.

'I’m over the moon that I’ve raised that much.’

David plans to begin his walk at Ramsey bus station at 6am on Saturday and will walk clockwise around the course, heading towards the mountain first.

'I’m hoping to complete it in about 11 hours, all being well,’ he said.

David added: ’On the day I’ll get stuck in, get into a rhythm and go for it.

'Why not challenge myself?

'I’ll have someone with me doing a few miles here and there I think as well.’

Donations are being taken on David’s JustGiving page.
