Lancashire man Darren Cooper won Wednesday afternoon’s Manx Grand Prix Supporters Club Lightweight race in near-perfect conditions.

Cooper brought home his Supertwin Kawasaki 27.986 seconds ahead of Irishman Andrew Farrell on corrected time.

The latter had originally headed the timing charts but Cooper, who finished second in day’s earlier Junior race, overhauled his rival by the timing point on the Bungalow on lap two.

Cooper gradually built on his lead to the near half a minute it was at the conclusion of the four-lap race.

A further 15.541 seconds behind Kawasaki-mounted Farrell was Welshman Barry Lee Evans who finished third.

Spaniard Victor Lopes-Santos was an impressive fourth with experienced Mountain Course campiagner Nick Jefferies fifth.

Marc Ironside completed the provisional top six.

Douglas’ Jamie Williams was well-placed to register a top-six finish, but was forced to retire at the pits at the end of lap three.

Former Newcomers MGP winner Peter Wilkinson from Douglas came home 10th just ahead of fellow locals Matt Mylchreest and David Quine.

The latter put the dsappointment of retiring from Tuesday evening’s Newcomers B race to finish 13th, one place behind fellow Douglas man Mylchreest.
