The Isle of Man was well-represented at a recent international festival of Celtic culture and language, held in Ireland last week.
The International Pan Celtic Festival, held in Letterkenny, County Donegal, saw the Manx entry into ’Celtivision’ song contest, a ballad entitled ’Yn Faagedyr’, written by the Manx Bard John ’Dog’ Callister and performed by members of the Callister family, singers Juan and wife Jo, together with keyboard player Jo Callister, performing under the name ’Drogh Yndis’.
The competition was won by the Irish entry, with the Manx song being voted in joint fifth place.
The festival also saw a successful ’Kiaull as Cooish’ event, with many festival goers taking part in a day of Manx music, chat, films, dancing and culture.
Local musician and composer Peddyr Cubberley and adopted Manx guitarist Malcolm Stitt also played a set of traditional Manx tunes during the opening night concert.
