To kick off this week, dear reader, we head to St. Ninian’s Church in Douglas where this Friday night this year’s ’Lesh Shee As Graih’ or ’With Peace And Love’ takes place.
Kicking off from 7pm, the line-up features Truman Falls, The Jeff Jepson Band, Post War Stories, Anna Goldsmith and Christy DeHaven.
The event is held in aid of Graih, a small Manx charity that assists the homeless and those in insecure accommodation. Go to graih.org.im for further details.
Tickets can be purchased for £5.00 and reserved in advance by emailing [email protected]
Elsewhere the Amber Bar hosts its last live event of the year the Saturday night. ’Dark Horse Presents’ has hosted various DJ and band nights at the Douglas venue over the course of this year and this fourth and final event for 2017 features electric, psychedelic drone-pop boys, Baad Acid.
Baad Acid has had a pretty great year all in all.
The band, namely Jamie Marshall on vocals and bass, Leigh Mitchell on guitar and Brian Brough on drums and keys has completed numerous live dates this year including a quite brilliant support slot to Primal Scream at the Villa Marina back in July.
Support for this show comes from Indie covers band, No-One Died, who count Patty on Vocals, YT on bass, Mal and Scott sharing the guitar duties and Barry on drums.
The doors for this free event open at 8pm.
Jeceris, a band that has been doing the rounds for some years now, head to Sam Webb’s in Douglas on Friday night. Led by guitarist and vocalist, Barry Nelson and joined by drummer, Noah Egelnick, bassist Val Nelson and guitarist Alex Duke are very much a blues and classic rock band.
Indeed, if the likes of Tom Petty, The Eagles, Joe Walsh, The Police, Thin Lizzy and Steely Dan do it for you, then it’ll be well worth heading down for a listen.
Finally this week we head to Jak’s Bar in Douglas where two of the mainstays of the Manx live scene appear in their now regular slots at the venue this weekend.
Featuring a set made up from classics from the likes of The Kinks, David Bowie, The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, R.E.M, and the like, Ian Thompson and the band appear on Friday night.
If this sounds like the soundtrack to your type of night out then you can’t go far wrong.
The following night, Penthouse Dive will be in residence. The three-piece band that features Mark Riley on guitar and vocals, Mark Cleator on bass and Mark Brabbs on drums play covers from the likes of ZZ Top, Foo Fighters, Bad Company, Thin Lizzy and the like.
This band certainly proves itself popular on the covers circuit and are well worth checking out if those influences sound like your tonic for a good night out.
Jak’s also ramp up their selection of live dates as we head towards Christmas. Instead of just Friday and Saturday nights, during the evenings over the next week you’ll also be able to see the likes of dance anthems from the modern chart band Konstruktion, British blues and rock exponents The Devil Note and the 80s music beast that is The Awesome 80s Band all in action.
