Man In The Woods had a pretty successful trip to the UK last weekend, by all accounts.
The stoner rockers were one of five bands who took part at Lizardfest, flying the flag for Manx bands in Bradford on Saturday night.
Bassist and singer Marc Anthony said they received great feedback from the other groups and that the trip had opened up new opportunities for them to play more shows across the water.
’Lizardfest was a great opportunity for us to take our music to the UK and perform alongside other like minded musicians and to crowds that are familiar with the doom, stoner and sludge sound,’ Marc said.
’Making contacts has been another massive positive we can bring away from the weekend.
’Off the back of Lizardfest we have been offered the opportunity to play across the UK including Scotland and in Europe.
’We are obviously excited about these developments as this will mean further exposure for us and the opportunity to play to new crowds and with other bands of a similar style.
’There is also a real interest from UK bands to add the Isle of Man to their list of places to play in the future.
We are excited about the possibility of this happening on island for people who are into this style of music.’
Man In The Woods thanked Graeme ’Mushy’ Muschamp the team from Lizardfest for their help, and are looking at returning to the festival in future.
’We also want to thank the Isle of Man Arts Council for their help in funding the trip as it wouldn’t have been possible without their support,’ Marc said.
’The fact that the Isle of Man still sees the importance of funding creative projects is fantastic.’
Back on the island, a new group will make its debut this weekend.
Shady Acres features Chris Flood on vocals and guitar, Scott Beecroft on bass, Paul Welsh on guitar, and Jay Young on drums, and are influenced by Fugazi, Sonic Youth, The Mars Volta and Jeff Buckley.
Head down south to Compton Vaults in Castletown on Saturday night from 9pm to find out what they’re all about.
Post War Stories and Han-FX play their second joint gig in two weeks.
Fresh from a raucous night at Compton Vaults last weekend, the two groups head to the Basement Bar in Douglas tomorrow night (Friday).
Everything kicks off from 7.30pm.
Elsewhere Lazy Daze head to Quids Inn in Douglas on Saturday night, starting at around 9.30pm.
Featuring the talents of John Ruscoe on vocals and guitar, Lewis Moon on bass and Andy James on drums, the band pulls out a setlist featuring covers from the likes of The Stone Roses, Ocean Colour Scene, The Stereophonics, The Jam and more.
