Young singers have been invited to join the Mannin Youth Choir, which is looking for new members to swell its ranks for its autumn 2019 season.

The choir, led by noted singer Mandy Griffin, will join the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra for a night at Peel Cathedral on Sunday, November 30.

This will be followed with the youth choir joining the Isle of Man Choral Society and Symphony Orchestra for a performance of ’Carmina Burana’, to be held in March 2020 at the Villa Marina.

Mandy said that they are excited about their forthcoming performanc es, and would like to invite any singers, up to the age of 24 years old, to join the choir and take part in the concerts.

’We would love to have some new members to build upon the choir’s existing membership,’ said Mandy.

’There is no audition and, thanks to the generous support of the choral society, there is no fee to pay, and all singers aged in school year nine and above, up to age 24, are welcome to join us.

’We appreciate how busy young people are today, so we’ve kept our rehearsals to a minimum and are rehearsing once a month with an extra rehearsal or two in the run up to the concert.’

The choir made its successful debut during April, earlier this year, when it joined the Isle of Man Choral Society to perform two pieces of music alongside the teenage Syrian poet Amineh Abou Kerech.

’We were absolutely thrilled with the choir’s debut performance at the Villa Marina this year’, said Mandy.

’We had about 30 singers who not only joined with the British premiere of the composer Sir Karl Jenkins’ "Sing! The Music was Given", but who then sang the very moving "Lamentation" on their own, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra.’

Rehearsals take place at St Andrew’s Church in Glencrutchery Road, Douglas, from 1pm until 5pm, on Sunday, September 22.

Further rehearsals will be held on Sunday, October 20 and Sunday, November 24.
