Onchan resident Margaret Brown, aged 70, is undertaking a triathlon challenge to raise money for Mannin Cancers and Asthma Research.

The challenge will involve a 70-minute run on a treadmill, a 70-minute cycle and a 70-minute swim completed consecutively.

Mrs Brown says she has been training hard for 12 months in the hope that the challenge will raise a worthwhile sum for the two charities.

On her choice of charities, she said: ’I had chronic asthma in middle age and our granddaughter and one of our grandsons has asthma.

’It is a very worrying condition in these Covid-19 times so research towards a cure is vital.’

For Mannin Cancers, Mrs Brown says she hopes the money raised will be able to go towards Spectral C7 scanners for Noble’s Hospital, which will provide the latest diagnostic imaging locally to improve both diagnosis and treatment of anyone’s condition in the future.

Mrs Brown previously worked in the charity sector where she was an administrator, and latterly co-ordinator of volunteers at the Manx Blind Welfare Society in Corrin Court in Onchan.

She is a also former administrator of the Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association’s Staywell Clinic at Noble’s Hospital and is currently a volunteer receptionist.

Mrs Brown and her husband, Colin, a retired journalist, recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary party where they invited guests not to bring presents but to make a donation to the Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association instead.

Mrs Brown will undertake the challenge at the NSC on October 14, donations can be made to the Justgiving pages: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/manxmargie (For Mannin Cancers)
